Spring is beginning to make its appearance in Cornwall. In Cornwall, spring arrives early thanks to our milder climate and location on the edge of the Gulf Stream.
Come and enjoy a spring break in Cornwall, perfect for an out of season couples’ break or a family Easter break. Let the warmer Cornish climate, longer days, and the arrival of native and early blooms invigorate your senses.
Walking the Cornish Coast…
Always a beautiful walk is to be had around the Cornish coast, but in spring there will also be the addition of the spring flowers. Here you will see a combination of sea pinks, spring squill, thrift and Oxeye daisies.
Great spots nearby include, Pentire Headland, which overlooks both Crantock and Fistral. You can park up, next to the headland, and walk to the end of the headland as well as around to Fistral beach.
Also, you can explore the coast around Crantock. Cubert Common is a popular walk, and from early spring you’ll find the large area of open grassland dotted with flowers. Types of flowers include primrose, cowslips and squill.
In late spring, between Porth Joke beach and Crantock, the headland is transformed with a carpet of red poppies, with the beautiful blue sea in the background.
Another great place for beautiful wildflowers in spring is Trevelgue Head, or Porth island, which runs alongside Porth beach. There are views over to Newquay on one side, and Watergate on the other. Here see pretty sea pinks and lovely ocean views.
If you go down to the Cornish woods today…
See a sweeping carpet of bluebells in May at one of Cornwall’s woodlands. Yes, the coast is glorious, but the woodland in Cornwall is also well worth exploring.
Kings Wood sits near the Cornish south coast, in the unusually named place of London Apprentice, is a good spot. Sections are located next to the St Austell river, and the marshland is an ideal habitat for a range of species such as willow and alder. In spring see beautiful glimpses of bluebells too.
Another wood to enjoy bluebells, is Kennal Vale Woods, the former site of Kennal Vale Gunpowder Factory, which closed over 100 years ago. There’s open glades and a water filled quarry.
Or head to the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Make your way to the Lost Valley section of the garden, where you can follow the ancient woodland pathways initially created 200 years ago for the Tremayne family.

Make it a beach day…
Spring can often surprise us with some warm weather to rival summer, and, even if it isn’t quite swimwear weather, you can still enjoy a beach day. There’s nothing better after a long winter than sitting on the beach with a picnic or a barbecue, and watching the Cornish sun go down.
