Newquay Zoo is a lovely zoo, just down the road from Hendra. Here you will find lemurs, farm, reptile house (spot the sloth!), monkeys, red pandas, otters, penguins and more. With a clear focus on conservation, there’s also educational talks, play areas, gardens, and seasonal events.

Lost Gardens of Heligan – great for Farm Animals

The Lost Gardens of Heligan is one of Cornwall’s best loved attractions. There’s so much to explore with a variety of gardens, from formal to working gardens, and of course the jungle area, with their very own Burmese Rope Bridge!

Heligan has so much wildlife too, with birds like a kingfisher or a humming bird hawkmoth. There’s also Heligan’s Farm, where you can see chickens, ducks, cows, sheep, goats and horses.

Cornish Coastal Wildlife

Visit Cornwall’s coastline and discover the wildlife that Cornwall has. Quieter times are better, so maybe pick the morning or evening.

You can see seals, porpoises and dolphins on Newquay’s coastline. Seals love Newquay harbour, looking for scraps from the fishing boats. Dolphins and porpoises have often been spotted off the headlands too.

On  the beach, you can find a variety of different sea creatures such as jellyfish (be careful!), crabs, and starfish! The beach is full of treasures and surprises!

Also, you can see different birds, such as gannets, diving for fish, and on the Gannel Estuary in Newquay, you can spot wading birds. Remember to give the wildlife enough space and be respectful.

We’ve also provided two bee hives to local farms to help with cross pollination.Families can collect a self-guided walking nature trail leaflet from reception, which helps to educate families on nature and the environment. There is also the Nature Rangers* which is guided by our very own Ranger, AJ. AJ has lots of interesting and entertaining facts. At the end of the tour get your very own certificate.
